Well that’s it folks. Another Brighton Parks League Season over and done with. Sadly it has not been one of our better seasons as far as results were concerned but we had lots of enjoyable, competitive and on many occasions successful matches.
Overall we won 123 pairs, halved 24 and lost 227 pairs…….So there is room for improvement next year! The encouraging factor was that we had a total of 72 members playing at various times and this number included 9 new members playing for the first time for our Tennis Club.
Hove (1st team) had another comfortable season in the 1st Division finishing 5th with 71 pts but had we been able to field our strongest team all season I think Tony could have finished higher but that was not to be.
Hove A (2nd team) as expected found it really hard in the 1st Division after promotion the previous year and sadly finished bottom with 23 pts but I am sure Neil and the rest of the team will all enjoy next season more in the 2nd Division.
Hove B (3rd team) after a promising start slipped down the table and finished 9th with 55pts which is a relegation place. There is just a glimmer of hope for Matt and the team, in that if Park Avenue A who finished 3rd in the 3rd Division (Dyke D can not be promoted) choose not to take promotion then Matt will get another chance at life in the 2nd Division!
Hove C (4th team) had a mixed season but still finished 6th with 69 pts which may well have been a little lower than Suzie was hoping for.
My team, Hove D (5th team) never quite got to grips with life in the 3rd Division after promotion the previous year and finished 9th with 53 pts which means it is back to the 4th Division next year.
Hove E (6th team) had a difficult time with Ann being taken ill during the season (thanks Matt for taking over) and as usual we had to concede several pairs which meant they finished 2nd from bottom which is the lowest place for a long while.
Thanks to all the Captain’s for everything they have done to help things keep moving on through the summer. Thanks to everybody who has played league matches for our Tennis Club whether they won, drew or lost. I can have a restful winter now it’s the end of league matches, but will miss the Poet’s Pub and Pork Scratchings!
Club nights continue starting at 5.00 pm until the end of September and then as usual Paul will keep coming along for the hardy few who wish to play until the clocks change.
Ps Please remember CLUB FINALS DAY – SUNDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER starting from 10am with the Ladies Singles…….Joannah Davis v Isla Tulloch !
