I have been unable to make any comments about the fortunes of our 6 teams for a couple of weeks as I have been on holiday to Croatia. I had a good holiday, met some really nice people and Croatia is a lovely place to visit. Dubrovnik was particularly interesting. While I was away it seems as though at last the sun has been shining here and we had no interruption to the Tennis.
I have not heard from our 1st and 2nd teams but our 3rd team, Hove B had it seems a really good victory at home to Queens B winning 3-1. Martyn Howe and Morna Fox it would appear had a comfortable victory winning 6-1 6-1. John King and Winnie Fox put the clock back a few years as they used to be a successful pairing in bygone days in the 1st division. They also had a good win 6-0 7-5. Farris Barakat and Matt Lea it seems had a close mens doubles but won 7-6 6-4 but Kathleen West and Suzie Holmes lost for the first time this season 3-6 3-6.
Hove C were at home to Hollingbury and played out a 2-2 draw. There were victories for John Thrussell and Lynn Jackson….good to hear Lynn is getting her old form back…and Sasha Long and Susannah Pettit. Des O’Dell and James Maddox it would seem had a close mens doubles but lost in 3 sets and William Housego-Woolgar and Carmel O’Dell also lost.
In my absence I hear my team, Hove D drew 2-2 away to King Alfred B. Colin Keating and Sharon Buxton ground out a long 2nd mixed match but finally won 3-6 6-2 6-4 and Peter Hermann and John Etkin-Bell also had a good win in the mens doubles 6-4 6-4.
Hove E once again found the opposition to strong and lost 0-4 at home to Blakers B.
As we move into the second 3rd of the season lets hope the weather holds good and we can have some enjoyable Tennis matches next week.
