Captain’s Comments – July 8-14 And The Olympic Torch in Hove Park

Well another week and still the weather interferes with our matches but it is good to say that in week 13 none of our 6 teams were beaten.

The Hove E v King Alfred B match was nearly a none event. They conceded 2 pairs to us and we conceded 1 pair to them. It was left to Rick Potterton & Fiona Harrison to play a mixed doubles but they were beaten 2-6 3-6.

Hove D gained a 3-1 victory at home to Saltdean C but it could have been better still as unfortunately Jo Barton was taken ill during her ladies doubles match and we had to concede at one set all……..get well soon Jo! The rest of the team all had comfortable 2 set victories.

Hove C had a really good result away to Saltdean B winning 3-1

Wednesday evening saw more rain but both Hove B and Hove A played through it to gain 2-2 draws with King Alfred A and Stanford A respectively.

Hove B won the mens doubles with Brian Aldridge & Terry Pack, playing his first match for the club winning 6-3 6-4 and Morna Fox & Maddy Dunckley gaining a good 6-7 6-3 6-1 victory in the ladies doubles.

Hove A winners were Gary Pugh & Emma Burnett in the 1st mixed, 6-3 6-0 and Matt Lea & Nicky Swann who came from behind in the 2nd mixed to gain a really good victory 4-6 6-4 6-1.

The rain once again won on Thursday with Hove having their 4th match of the season postponed.

OLYMPIC TORCH IN HOVE PARK JULY 16 6PM

Please remember that the Olympic Touch relay will be coming through Hove Park at about 6.00 p.m on Monday 16th July so it will no doubt be very busy in the Park and hard to find a space to leave your car but I hope members will be able to combine seeing the touch and coming to our club session never the less.
