Captain’s Comments – July 22-28

I hope you are all enjoying Wimbledon and getting a few tips from what you see!

One score stood out in week 11……Lost 1-3. All our Teams lost by that score except the 1st Team who won 2.5-1.5

Hollingbury A v Hove E match was a non-event. We had 11 Ladies unavailable last week so we had to concede the 3 pairs involving Ladies and then Hollingbury A conceded the Mens Doubles to us.

While I was at Wimbledon on Tuesday my Team, Hove D got just 2pts at home to Blakers B with Peter Hermann & William Housego-Woolgar winning the Mens Doubles 6-4 6-3.

Hove C gained their 2pts through Alan Stacey & Jo Barton who won 7-5 6-3

Wednesday evening brought two more 1-3 defeats with Hove B gaining their 2pts against Dyke B through Marcus Oldfield & Morna Fox winning 6-1 6-2 and Hove A had their 2pts given to them when Queens B conceded the Ladies Doubles.

Hove gained 5 valuable points against Dyke A who are also in the lower reaches of the1st Division with Martin Patrick & Maddy Dunckley gaining an easy 6-1 6-0 2nd mixed victory and Emma Burnett & Winnie Fox also winning in 2 sets 6-2 6-4. Tony Denman & Lesley Clements gained a hard fought point in a close 1st mixed match against a strong Dyke A pair with the score halved at 5-7 7-6. James Denman & Josh Pollard were just beaten in what turned out to be a close Mens Doubles losing 0-6 7-6 5-7.

Lets hope for some better results next week and you all enjoy the 2nd week of Wimbledon and may your favourite win next sunday whether it be Djokovic, Federer or Murray!
