Ladies Tennis Action

Well it is Monday afternoon and as I type this the rain is still lashing down. Looks like we may miss club night tonight. Just hope for better weather this week for the second round of League matches.

And now for the full story of this weeks Parks League…

The new season got off to a cold, windy and at times wet start. On Tuesday evening the 6th Team were looking forward to playing Queens D at Queens Park when our oppenents conceded 3 pairs which just left Colin Keating and Rick Potterton, who was playing his first match for the club, to play the Mens Doubles which unfortunately they lost.

Never mind, 6 points gained which is 2pts better than the 5th team who halved there match with Dyke E. Suzie Holmes & Kathleen West got off to a flying start winning the Ladies Doubles in under an hour 6-0 6-4. William Housego-Woolgar & Peter Hermann played out a close Men’s Doubles which came to a close at 3-3 in the 3rd set. Mick Cox & Sasha Long also halved there match 3-6 7-5 but a match point had to be saved in the 2nd set! The other match saw Chris Lilley & Lynn Jackson lose 1-6 5-7.

Hove C went to St Annes Wells Gardens to play a fairly strong Blagss A. We lost the match 1.5 – 2.5. Our only victory came in the Ladies Doubles when Carmel O’Dell & Susanna Pettit lost a really close tie break game 10-8 but then one of the Blagss A Ladies said she was injured so we got the points. John Thrussell & Julia Bevan did well to halve ther match after losing the first set 1-6 they won the 2nd 7-6. Matt Lea & James Maddox who was also playing has first match for Hove Park played a close fought Mens Doubles but lost 6-2 5-7 3-6 The remaining match saw Des O’Dell & Pauline Keating Lose 0-6 3-6. The rain was the main winner on Wednesday evening.

The Hove B match at Saltdean was postponed but Hove A tried to play Park Avenue on our Astro Courts. None of the 4 games were able to be completed as the heavens open and everybody ran for cover so the match was halved.

On Thursday Hove welcomed Blagss to Hove Park for there first ever match in the top division,  a revamped Hove first team still proved to strong for Blagss winning 3-1. Martin Patrick & Debbie Clarke were miles to strong for there oppenents winning 6-0 6-0. Tony Denman & Patricia Pollard also won the other mixed comfortably 6-0 6-2 and Lesley Clements & Emma Burnett won the Ladies Doubles 6-2 6-3. The closest match was in the Mens Doubles were Darren Pollard & Josh Pollard came up againest possibly the best man in the Park League in Ron Jefferys and his partner Matt Morgan. We lost 2-6 5-7 but it was a game of high quality tennis.

Good Luck to everyone in their matches this week and let’s hope for some better weather (which seems unlikely) and some good results.
